DBIA releases a Briefing Paper calling for government action on deafblindness

During Deafblind Awareness Week, Deafblind Information Australia released a Briefing Paper – National Advocacy Priorities for Australians with Deafblindness. This document is for the Australian Government. It provides advice on what they can do to better support people who are deafblind.

More than half a million Australians are living with deafblindness. Many more are not included in government records and do not get the support they need. The paper asks the Government to take three actions.

  • to collect better statistics on deafblindness

  • provide more support for peer groups that help deafblind people and families

  • support deafblind training for workers in health, disability, aged care, and schools
