Ask a Deafblind Consultant

People with deafblindness, their families and services providers can contact the Deafblind Consultant service. This can be done via phone, text message, email or video conference with an interpreter for the following services:

For people with deafblindness or their families

The Deafblind Consultant will first refer you to any relevant information on the Deafblind Information Hub. Once you have viewed this information and have further questions or need for support we can assist with the following:

 

  • General information about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) (up to 1 hour)
  • Information about eligibility and registering with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) (30 minutes)
  • Information about what can be included in an NDIS plan (up to 1 hour)
  • Support with preparing for your NDIS planning meeting (up to 2 hours)
  • Information about reviewing your NDIS plan (1 hour)
  • Support with using services such as
    • services providers (e.g. support coordinator, support worker / communication guide, therapists),
    • community based organisations (e.g. library, gym, pool, shops), and
    • government organisations (e.g. Centrelink, police, local council) (up to 3 hours per service)
  • Linking with services in your local area (up to 1 hour)
  • Making a complaint

For Service Providers and Community Services

The Deafblind Consultant will first refer you to any relevant information on the Deafblind Information Hub. Once you have viewed this information and have further questions or need for support we can assist with the following:

 

  • How to work with an individual with deafblindness (up to 1 hour)
  • How to make print material accessible for people with deafblindness (up to 1 hour)
  • How to make the physical environment accessible for people with deafblindness (up to 1 hour)
  • How to book and work with an Auslan interpreter (up to 1 hour)
