A group of incredible trekkers, all with the same debilitating dual sensory loss, will set out in August, 2014 to walk the Bibbulmun Track right here in WA. The Bibbulmun Track is one of the world’s great long distance walk trails, stretching nearly 1000km from Kalamunda in the Perth Hills, to Albany on the south coast, winding through the heart of the scenic South West of Western Australia.
The Team

Sharyn Mitchell, brothers’ Eddie and George Szczepanik, Greg Locock, and David Murray all have ‘Usher Syndrome’, a degenerative condition that affects both the hearing and the vision in such a manner that many with this condition fully lose both senses over time. Every person with this condition has different levels of vision and hearing loss – some have no hearing at all from birth while some have mild hearing loss as a child which gradually deteriorates with age. Vision loss usually starts to present itself in the late teens which can progress to little or no vision later on in life.
